Usher Has A History On The VMA Stage

Usher will certainly have fans saying “OMG” when he hits the stage at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, but it isn’t the first time he’s had VMA viewers shouting his lyrics.
The R&B superstar got his first taste of what it was like to perform at the VMAs in Los Angeles in 1998 when he played the pre-show, taking the stage in a leather, graffiti-print jacket and leather tuxedo pants. Usher’s performance back then was incredibly low-fi, having only a few dancers behind him dressed like the ones in his “My Way” clip, which was nominated for a VMA that year.

Dimmu Borgir Release Live DVD; Plus Led Zeppelin, Brujeria, & More News That Rules, In Metal File

On October 14, Dimmu Borgir — who just happen to be Demi Lovato’s favorite black-metal band — will release a a three-disc DVD/CD set called “The Invaluable Darkness,” the band’s first visual offering since 2002’s “World Misanthropy.” Boasting live footage shot last year, during gigs in Norway, Germany and England, “The Invaluable Darkness” demonstrates the unbridled furor of seeing Dimmu live, guitarist Silenoz said.
“It shows the honest rawness and atmospheric darkness of our concerts,” the Norwegian told Metal File last week, after dismissing recent online rumors that his band’s next LP would be coming out through Roadrunner Records. “Basically, it shows the intense live side of the band, as opposed to the perfection and the cleanness of how we sound on our albums. It’s just a different side to the band, basically.”
Dimmu Borgir began thinking about “The Invaluable Darkness” two years ago, but didn’t start capturing footage until last summer, Silenoz explained, adding that the band will use its current stint on the Blackest of the Black Tour — which got underway Thursday night in Miami Beach, Florida, and also features the tour’s founder, Danzig, along with
Moonspell, Winds of Plague and Skeletonwitch — to promote the DVD. Dimmu Borgir will not, however, use the tour to write material for their next LP.
“It’s our first time on Blackest, but Glenn [Danzig] had wanted to bring us out before [on the tour], but we weren’t available until now,” Silenoz said. “We’ve done Ozzfest before, but we’re looking forward to this tour more. We did the main stage on Ozzfest, playing in f–_ing broad daylight. This tour will let us play in bigger places, but at the same time showcase more of what the band’s about, visually. We are going to concentrate on the tour for now. Some years ago, we tried putting [material] together on the road, but once we got home, we listened back to it, and were like, ‘What the f— is this?’ So, we just scrapped it all. We find it’s so much better to totally focus on one thing at a time, and then, when that’s over, you move on to the next [thing]. We don’t really feel like we need to rush things, anyway, so we’ll just take our time, and it’s going to be what it’s going to be.”
Dimmu Borgir hope to reconvene in late December to begin writing the follow-up to 2007’s diabolically titled In Sorte Diaboli. “We have some ideas floating around already, but we haven’t arranged any material yet,” he said. “We’ll start doing that once the touring for this DVD is over.” The band’s frontman, Shagrath, is also due to marry soon — he’s engaged to actor Nicolas Cage’s ex-girlfriend, Christina Fulton, so that may have an effect on when Dimmu finish their next album, which Silenoz said could be out this coming spring.
“I’m sure [Shagrath] won’t let anything get in the way [of] the band — I think, I hope,” the guitarist said. “We don’t need a Yoko [Ono] situation.”
While Dimmu have been at it going on 15 years now, Silenoz said he doesn’t think their forthcoming material will be much of a departure from their previous black-metal offerings.
“And we have always been about more than just that term, ‘black metal,’ ” he said. “Luckily for us, the older you get, the less concerned you get with the categorization and putting labels on your music. Things start getting more and more limitless with us, and we know that we operate within certain frames. But we try not to analyze things too much, because it’s just going to be working against you in the end. When we write new stuff, we don’t think about what we should write — we just get together, and put material together, and if we like it, we keep it. That’s the formula, if we even have a formula.”
Dimmu Borgir are definitely getting older — guitarist Galder will be missing Blackest because of a recent addition to his family, and Susperia’s Cyrus will be filling in for him; while former Vader drummer Dariusz Brzozowski takes over for Hellhammer, who had to leave the band in 2007 after sustaining a neck injury that’s now limited the use of his right arm. As Dimmu has gotten on in years, Silenoz admits they have failed to keep pace with some of the more extreme black-metal acts that have followed in their wake.
“We helped open doors for the more extreme bands out there,” Silenoz said. “I’m sure we helped open doors for bands like Watain, [insomuch as] people that had maybe started listening to us first then went on to the more extreme stuff. Let’s face it — we’re not as extreme as Watain and other bands like that, but we’re fine with that.”
The Blackest of the Black Tour continues through November 10 in San Francisco.
The rest of the week’s metal news:
Dimmu’s tourmates on Blackest, Winds of Plague, have announced ex-Azusa drummer Art Cruz has joined their ranks — he replaced Jeff Tenney. According to the band’s blog, “Art has already added a new spark to the band and has provided us with a solid backbone that will allow us to continue our rampage stronger than ever.” …
What the world really needs is another
Led Zeppelin box set, so, on November 4, Rhino Records will issue the Led Zeppelin Definitive Collection Mini LP Replica CD box set. For just $200, you’ll get 1969’s Led Zeppelin, 1969’s Led Zeppelin II, 1970’s Led Zeppelin III, 1971’s Led Zeppelin IV, 1973’s Houses of the Holy, 1975’s Physical Graffiti, 1976’s Presence, 1976’s The Song Remains the Same, 1979’s In Through the Out Door and 1982’s Coda, as mini-LP replicas, with artwork from the original U.K. LP sleeves. Now, you know what you can get your dad for Christmas. …
Former Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach and current Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz have teamed up for a new project they’re calling Times of Grace, and they’ve already started working on material for their debut album. According to Leach, “We have two songs to go and we will be finished with all of the vocals. Adam has taken lead vocals in three songs as of yet and he is doing a great job. We also worked on a track yesterday that is so epic — we trade vocals and do two different melodies at the same time. This album went from a melodic metal album to an epic mix of metal/rock/pop/shoegaze and punk. So all of your metal expectations will be incorrect — we are pushing genre boundaries.” To quote “Meet the Parents,” we’ll look forward to that, Greg. …
The Funeral Pyre and Early Graves will be hitting the road together next month, starting November 7 in South Lake Tahoe, California. Dates are booked through November 21 in Hollywood. …
The latest incarnation of Brujeria, which features Carcass frontman Jeff Walker and Napalm Death’s Shane Embury, have lined up several U.S. dates for this winter. The band will begin its brief trek November 28 in Denver, and wrap things up in Dallas on December 7. …
Demiricous will be touring with the Gates of Slumber starting November 9 in Denver, for a jaunt that’s scheduled to run through December 6 in Indianapolis. …
Nearly three years after Roadrunner Records’ Roadrunner United concert, which took over the Nokia Theater in New York’s Times Square, the label is now releasing footage from that special night as “Roadrunner United: The Concert.” The DVD, which hits stores December 9, will boast two discs and 24 live tracks, including Life of Agony’s “River Runs Red,” King Diamond’s “Abigail,” Killswitch’s “My Last Serenade,” Type O Negative’s “Black No. 1″ and Sepultura’s “Refuse/Resist.” …
According to Blabbermouth, Verrot, bassist for Swedish black-metal outfit Elimi, committed suicide on October 3. In a statement, the band said, “Verrot was a very good friend, brother, an excellent bass player/musician and an important part of Elimi; we respect his decision and hope he’ll find his way with the dark gods of Chaos. Let your black flame be a part of what brings forth the day of wrath.”

Mary J. Blige Dishes On Her ‘Crazy’ Led Zeppelin Covers

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

‘I’ve listened to their music since I was a child,’ says the R&B diva, who recorded ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love.’By James Montgomery, with reporting by Larry Carroll

Mary J. Blige

Photo: MTV News

You wouldn’t peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin.
In early February, reports began circulating that Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin’s classic “Stairway to Heaven,” working with Travis Barker, “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her Stronger With Each Tear album, due Monday.

But after she had recorded “Stairway,” Blige continued to get the Led out, covering another Zeppelin classic — the thunderous “Whole Lotta Love” — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the Essence Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you’d probably imagine.
“I did Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ — it’s crazy,” she said. “I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I’m not going to say I’ve been to their concerts, but I’ve listened to their music since I was a child, and it’s always moved me, especially ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ is just fun.”
Blige also said she recorded another new song — a “club record” called “I Can’t Wait” — for the re-release. And while it’s only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon.
“I want y’all to hear it,” she laughed.

Britney Spears On Working With Lady Gaga: ‘Anything’s Possible’

Singer poses on manga-inspired Pop cover.By James Dinh

Britney Spears on the cover of Pop

Photo: J-Pop

From schoolgirl to toxic temptress, Britney Spears has played many characters throughout the years. But the singer took a very different approach for her photo spread in the upcoming issue of the U.K.’s Pop magazine by channeling her inner manga character. In the issue, the pop princess dished about the possibilities of a Lady Gaga collaboration and working with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami for the anime-inspired cover.
Despite Gaga overthrowing Spears as the most-followed celebrity on Twitter, the singer had no hard feelings toward pop’s newest sensation. “I’m a big fan of hers,” she said when asked about working with Gaga. “Anything’s possible!”
A collaboration between the pop stars doesn’t seem out of the question, as Gaga’s mega-hit “Telephone” duet with Beyoncé was originally offered to Spears.
Donning a white wedding dress and a veil with matching gloves, Spears innocently poses in a field of flowers on the cover. In another photo, the singer trades the dress for a leg-baring getup accessorized with a red backpack.
Spears’ manga-style shoot was shot by Todd Cole with art direction from Takashi Murakami, who is often referred to as the “Andy Warhol of Japan.” While the spread strays from the singer’s typical styling, the pop star enjoyed working with the artist. “I loved working with Takashi,” she said. “I especially liked how he took high-end fashion and incorporated it with Japanese manga.”
The singer’s tour to Japan was what originally piqued her interest in Japanese culture. “We looked at a lot of characters and artwork before we shot, so I could get a feel for what he was looking for,” she explained. “I was in Japan on my past promo tour, and I loved it.”
Editor in Chief Dasha Zhukova spoke to Style.com about the singer’s Japanese treatment: “She’s feminine, sassy, strong-willed, determined: all the things a great Pop icon should be. Couple that with some Japanese swimsuits and a Rodarte wedding gown, and I think she is pretty much Pop personified!”
Spears couldn’t wait to share her excitement for her photo shoot with fans. The pop star took to Twitter, saying, “I just saw the photos for the first time and they are beautiful. Comes out Sept. 1st. Thanks @TakashiPom — Britney.”
Aside from gracing the cover of Pop magazine, the singer has already filmed a cameo for her “Glee” tribute episode and is working on completing the follow-up to 2008’s Circus.

Coldplay’s new British stamps

On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.’s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years.
The albums featured in the new series are the Rolling Stones’ Let It Bleed, Led Zeppelin’s IV, David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells, The Clash’s London Calling, New Order’s Power, Corruption and Lies, Primal Scream’s Screamadelica, Pink Floyd’s The Division Bell, Blur’s Parklife and — the most recent album on to make the cut — Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head.
Meant to honor “the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people’s lives,” the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for IV — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album’s iconic imagery.
“Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him,” he said. “That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time.”
Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their Rush of Blood stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan “a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today’s issue date.”
“We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps,” the message read. “Very nice they are too.”

New Led Zeppelin On The Way? Jason Bonham Hints At ‘Jam’ Sessions With Jimmy Page — But Not Robert Plant

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Drummer admits he doesn’t know what will come of ‘new material.’By Chris Harris

Jason Bonham

On Friday morning, mere hours before he was due to take the stage with classic rockers Foreigner at Detroit’s GM Renaissance Center, drummer Jason Bonham — the son of late Led Zeppelin kitman John Bonham — told Jim Johnson and Lynne Woodison of local rock station 94.7 WCSX that he’d be an ex-member of Foreigner as of September 1. But that’s not the only thing he said.
Much to the delight of Led Zeppelin fans everywhere, Bonham revealed that he’s been meeting up with Led Zep guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones in recent months and that they’ve been “trying to do some new material and writing.”
It was the first time since Led Zeppelin announced they would re-form for a single performance (which happened late last year at London’s O2 Arena, in honor of the late Ahmet Ertegün, who signed the band to Atlantic Records in 1969) that anyone connected to the band has confirmed publicly that new music could be on the horizon for the iconic rockers. While the bandmembers have stopped short of definitively ruling out such a reunion, singer Robert Plant insisted in the wake of last year’s show that he intended to focus on promoting and touring behind his critically lauded album with bluegrass artist Alison Krauss, Raising Sand.
Not that Bonham knows what — if anything — will happen with the new material he’s been working on with Page (who collaborated with pop singer Leona Lewis on an uneven version of Zep’s “Whole Lotta Love” at the Olympic closing ceremonies in Beijing on Sunday night) and Jones. He said he just shows up and takes his seat behind the kit.
“I’ve been over [to England] a couple of times,” Bonham said. “I’ve been working with Jimmy and John Paul and trying to do … some new material and some writing. I don’t know what it will be, but it will be something. At the moment, all I know is I have the great pleasure to go and jam with the two guys and start work on some material. When I get there, I never ask any questions. If I get a phone call to go and play, I enjoy every moment of it. Whatever it ends up as, to ever get a chance to jam with two people like that, it is a phenomenal thing for me. It’s my life. It’s what I’ve dreamed about doing.”
He said it’s still too early to tell what will become of these “jam” sessions, but admitted that the “possibility of doing something is in the cards. I really felt it was in the cards from the moment we walked offstage at the O2.” Bonham also explained that, before there could be a Led Zep LP, “lots of politics [would need to] get ironed out,” but added that recording with Zep is “something I’ve always wanted to do.”
Bonham noticeably didn’t mention frontman Plant’s name during the discussion. A spokesperson for Page’s management had no comment on the matter, and a spokesperson for Jones’ management could not be reached by press time.

T.I. Says Song With Lady Gaga May Not Be ‘A Keeper’

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Gaga claims collaboration could be worked into something even better, says Tip.By James Montgomery

T.I.

Photo: Moses Robinson/ Getty Images

Earlier this year, T.I. had jaws dropping when he announced that he’d recorded some 80 songs for his upcoming album King Uncaged, and that at least one of them was a collaboration with Lady Gaga.

“[She's a] phenomenal talent. Extremely proud [to work with her]. She’s definitely that good. She knows what she’s doing. She knows exactly what she wants people to think and say,” Tip said of Gaga. “She does everything that she needs to be done to ensure it happens. I think she’s an entertainer, in all aspects of the word … a classic, all-around entertainer. A global star.”
A few months later, he continued to heap praise on LG, calling her “a phenomenal talent … that transcends through all genres, all races, all religions.”
But while T.I. was clearly enthused about the collaboration, he also stopped short of saying whether or not his song with Gaga would actually end up on Uncaged, joking, “I’m not gonna let no cats out of no bags.” And now, we know the reason why.
In a new interview with Rap-Up.com, TIP revealed that the song would more than likely be re-worked … or scrapped entirely. Why? Gaga insisted that she could make something even better.
“[Gaga] brought it to my knowledge that she would like to top what we already have,” he said. “That being said, I don’t know if that’s going to be a keeper or if that’s going to be one-upped or what not.”
So at the moment, the fate of the collaboration seems to be up in the air. But T.I. doesn’t seem to be all that upset … after all, he was thrilled just to work with the Mother Monster on a track.
“I begged on hands and knees [to work with her], ‘Please!’” he joked. “I worked with the producer RedOne and made it known that I was interested in working with her, and the enthusiasm was shared, and we were able to get it done.”

Adam Lambert’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’: The Story Behind The Cover

Glam rocker tackled the legendary 1970 Led Zeppelin song for ‘American Idol’ rock night.By Gil Kaufman

Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That’s the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off Led Zeppelin’s 1970 Stonehenge of rock, “Whole Lotta Love.” And that’s before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”
That’s the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on “American Idol” rock night Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” in 2004.

The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album Led Zeppelin II. Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, “Love” was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called “You Need Love,” which was penned by Dixon.
For Zeppelin’s version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin’ Wolf, “Back Door Man” and “Shake For Me,” nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966’s “You Need Loving” from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin’s first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band’s only British single in 1997.
Dixon sued Zeppelin over the song in 1985, claiming it borrowed too heavily from his “You Need Love,” and Zeppelin reached an agreement with him, with Dixon using the money he received to set up a program that provided musical instruments for schools. A cornerstone of heavy rock, the tune — which was the theme song for the long-running British countdown show “Top of the Pops” in the 1970s and ’80s — has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, from Tina Turner and Ben Harper to Prince, Slash, Leona Lewis, Train’s Pat Monahan, the London Symphony Orchestra and Jane’s Addiction.

Chris Cornell Filling In For Robert Plant On Led Zeppelin Tour? That’s News To Him

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

‘I have not been approached to fill in for Robert Plant on the Zeppelin tour, but that isn’t to say I won’t be,’ singer says.By Chris Harris

Chris Cornell

Former Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell has spoken out for the first time about rumors that he’s been asked to fill in for Robert Plant on a proposed Led Zeppelin reunion tour. The trek would feature original guitarist Jimmy Page, original bassist John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham taking over on drums for his late father, John Bonham.
Cornell has been mentioned — along with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, White Stripes mastermind Jack White and Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy — as a potential Plant fill-in. Plant has already said that he wouldn’t take part in the tour.

“I have not been approached so far to fill in for Robert Plant on the upcoming Zeppelin tour, but that isn’t to say I won’t be,” Cornell told MTV News. “I’ve heard that from about 200 people now, and it might be one of those situations where it’s just an online rumor or it might be true. But if you see anyone from Led Zeppelin around, let me know. I think I should actually fill in for Jimmy Page on the Robert Plant/ Alison Krauss tour.”
Cornell’s denial comes just a day after Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford confirmed reports that frontman Steven Tyler recently met with Zeppelin for an impromptu jam session. “They did it for fun,” Whitford said during an appearance on the syndicated show “Todd N Tyler Radio Empire.” “I actually think Jimmy wanted Steven to come over and play a little bit because I think he was trying to light a fire under Robert.”
Rumors of a Zeppelin reunion tour have abounded since the iconic band played a single reunion set last year at London’s O2 Arena. Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider added fuel to the fire last month when he revealed that the group was thinking of touring, with or without Plant.
According to Snider, the rest of the band told Plant, ” ‘We’re all rehearsed, we’re ready to go. Here’s a gazillion dollars on the table. If you don’t do it, we’re going out with this kid [Myles Kennedy].’ ”
“And he can sing the sh– out of Zeppelin,” Snider added. “They’re going to hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, ‘OK,’ and step in.”
In a recent interview, Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought to take over for Plant. “We are trying out a couple of singers,” he said. “We want to do it. It’s sounding great, and we want to get on and get out there.”
But Jones insists that he, Page and Bonham aren’t interested in finding a Plant clone. “It’s got to be right,” he said. “There’s no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don’t want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be onboard.”
Of course, even if Zeppelin were to approach him, Cornell might be too busy to take over vocals for the band. His upcoming Timbaland-produced solo LP, Scream, will be released within the next few months. Cornell told MTV News last month that some of his fans might consider Scream something of a departure, but he doesn’t see it that way.
“It makes me happy that there’s this perception that I have a group of fans that I’m now sort of throwing a curve at and what their reaction will be,” he said. “But I’ve been in this situation so many times already. When I put out [1999's] Euphoria Morning, my main goal was to create an album that sounded like nothing I’d done in Soundgarden, and I did that. I also had that with Temple of the Dog, where I showed up with songs that weren’t necessarily riff-based. And then, of course, the pairing of me and members of Rage Against the Machine had everyone sort of speculating about what that would sound like.
“It feels like I’ve done this so many times that when it’s presented to me as being a departure, I feel that’s a misconception,” he added. “I feel like that’s my theme at this point.”

Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Tour Will Gross Nearly $200 Million

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Tour kicked off in November 2009 and will run at least through April 2011.By James Montgomery

There’s a reason Lady Gaga doesn’t ever seem to want to wrap up her globe-trotting Monster Ball Tour: It’s a moneymaking machine.
Billboard is reporting that, by the time the curtain finally falls on the Ball — which kicked off in November 2009 and is scheduled to run until at least April 2011 — it will have grossed nearly $200 million worldwide.
It’s a huge number, to be sure, and it’s more proof that Gaga has ascended to the upper echelon of touring acts. In 2009, U2’s 360 Tour was the year’s top-grossing jaunt, raking in more than $300 million, according to Billboard. Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour was at #2, with receipts of more than $220 million. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band landed at #3, grossing more than $156 million.
In the nearly 10 months it’s been on the road, Gaga’s Monster Ball has made stops in North America, Europe, the U.K., Asia and Australia. And a spokesperson for Live Nation Entertainment, which produced U2’s and Madonna’s tours — and also serves as the producer on the Monster Ball — told Billboard that Gaga’s tremendous touring success only serves as further proof that she’s arrived on the scene and has seized the public’s consciousness.
“It’s an opportunity,” Live Nation global touring chairman Arthur Fogel said. “As an artist with that kind of talent and vision emerges, it creates a lot of excitement, and ticket sales worldwide demonstrate that people are really excited to see the show.
“Over the course of the next many months, we’re trying to play to as many people in as many places as possible,” he added. “It’s an across-the-board home run.”

No hay más Led Zeppelin

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Coldplay, Led Zeppelin Album Covers Featured On New British Stamps

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Album art from Pink Floyd, Blur and David Bowie also included.By James Montgomery

Coldplay’s new British stamps

Photo: Royal Mail

Britney Spears On Working With Lady Gaga: ‘Anything’s Possible’

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

What do you think of Britney’s manga-inspired photo shoot? Would you like to hear a Britney and Gaga collabo? Share your thoughts below!

Ke$ha Ready To Face Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga At The VMAs

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

‘It’s gonna be hard taking the Biebs down,’ the ‘Tik Tok’ singer tells MTV News about her Best New Artist nom.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi

Ke$ha

Photo: MTV News

Ke$ha will storm this September’s Video Music Awards with four nominations — she picked up three for her infectious breakthrough single “Tik Tok,” as well as one for “My First Kiss,” her duet with 3Oh!3. But the singer isn’t quite sure she’ll be able to wrest the Best New Artist Moonman from windswept heartthrob Justin Bieber.

“It’s gonna be hard taking the Biebs down,” she told MTV News. “It’s gonna be hard, but my fans — we can do it!”
Justin Bieber isn’t Ke$ha’s only stiff competition on September 12; the brash singer is also up for Best Female Video against heavy hitters like Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. But she hopes that her fans will party all over the ballot box and sweep her to victory.
“I have no idea! Gaga and Beyoncé and Taylor Swift — everybody in there I respect, so it’s kind of like I have no disses to throw,” she said. “That’s a tough category. ['Tik Tok'] was my first video, so that really is exciting. I had no idea what I was doing. It was my first time making a video, so it’s really kind of cool. I’m excited to see if I and a chance, but I think we can take them. Can’t we? I’m down to try!”
After she found out about the nominations, she tweeted her excitement, saying, “I don’t even know what to say. I’m so grateful and thankful and stunned and excited. I can’t even put into words actually how much this means to me … thank you to every single one of my fans … I’m f—ing losing my sh–. I’m so stoked!!!!!”
The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners from now through September 12.

Lady Gaga Close To Besting Britney Spears In Twitter Followers

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Spears is the world’s top tweeter, but Gaga is hot on her heels.By Mawuse Ziegbe

Lady Gaga

Photo: Kristian Dowling/ Getty Images

Lady Gaga’s near-dominance of all things social media is reaching a pivotal point: Mother Monster is poised to topple Britney Spears as the most-followed Twitter user.
According to the social-media website FameCount, which tracks the most popular entities on sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Spears is the world’s top tweeter, with more than 5.6 million followers, but Gaga is right on her heels. As of Thursday afternoon (August 19), Spears’ followers numbered 5,646,028, while Gaga’s online army of “little monsters” was 5,635,460 strong. The ranking could switch very soon, since Gaga has netted around 600,000 new followers this month, while Spears pulled in about 200,000. The site also lists Gaga as the most popular online entity worldwide, with more than 16 million Facebook fans and 330,000 YouTube subscribers.
Gaga’s pre-eminent Twitter status is just the latest milestone marking the pop phenom’s powerful viral presence. Last month, Gaga soared past the leader of the free world, President Obama, in Facebook fans. The “Alejandro” singer was also the first living person to notch 10 million fans on the intensely popular social-networking website.
Despite runaway online popularity that rivals her chart-topping music sales, Gaga still has to fend off competition from other pop stars. In July, Justin Bieber bested Gaga for the most-watched music video on YouTube with more than 245,746,720 views for the Ludacris-assisted collabo “Baby.” Gaga’s futuristic-disco extravaganza “Bad Romance” was close behind with 245,596,709. Bieber has since widened the gap, however, with “Baby” scoring 292,285,435 views to Gaga’s 264,533,336 YouTube spins at press time.
Gaga’s viral presence is undeniable, but the singer’s outsize fan support has yielded results in the form of cold hard cash as well. After circling the globe on her Monster Ball Tour since November of last year, the seat-filling tour is on track to gross $200 million worldwide by April 2011.

Photo: MTV News

Valve VP: We’re not working on Steam for Linux

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Well, so much for hints, Linux users. While it initially looked as though Valve’s gaming behemoth was headed your way when the Mac client arrived, that may not actually be the case.

In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Valve’s VP of Marketing Doug Lombardi has bad news for Linux gamers: “There’s no Linux version that we’re working on right now.”

Sorry to take the Steam out of your locomotives. But hey, look on the bright side — Lombardi didn’t say they weren’t going to work on it in the future or that they had never worked on a Linux version. If you like reading into things, his phrasing leaves plenty of room for speculation.

Google tests real-time as-you-type search results (video)

Watch the video! Pretty awesome, eh?

The problem is, as TechCrunch says, what about the advertising? Does every page refresh count as an ad impression? Will slower typists incur more screen refreshes? By the same rationale, surely real-time results like that must chew through the bandwidth, especially as search results become more interactive and media-rich.

Chances are, though, we won’t see these real-time as-you-type search results in their current form. Google famously works on hundreds of little tweaks at any given time, each being rolled out to just a tiny fraction of its users. Instead, this technology might find its way to YouTube, or (gasp) Gmail! Having said that, as long as it doesn’t impact too heavily on bandwidth and advertising concerns, maybe we will see it on Google Search!

It also makes you wonder what other unreported changes are tried out by Google…Google tests real-time as-you-type search results (video) originally appeared on Download Squad on Mon, 23 Aug 2010 08:00:00 EST. FoxySpider is a Web crawler for image and video enthusiasts

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Filed under: Utilities, Mozilla, BrowsersI still remember the day fondly. I was 16 and I had just got my first broadband connection. 512 kilobits of pure DOWNLOAD! Ten times the bandwidth of my dial-up modem! Unlimited traffic! To this day I’m still amazed at how quickly I filled my 20GB hard drive with porn. But that’s beyond the point — back then, you had to either painstakingly Right Click > Save As on every image and video, or rely on a bunch of really crap standalone Web crawlers.

Fast forward to today and collecting porn image galleries is a lot easier. Not only do we have terabytes of hard disk space and megabit Internet connections, but you can use peer-to-peer services like BitTorrent to download entire archives at the click of a button. But if you still want to crawl sites and make your own archives, you can’t go wrong with the Firefox add-on FoxySpider.

FoxySpider is marketed as a porn crawler. Out of the box it will crawl all images and videos on the page you’re currently viewing, but it has tons of options. You can change the crawl depth, make it ignore files without thumbnails and change how many files are concurrently downloaded. You have complete control over the file types that are downloaded, so if you want to crawl music files, documents or indeed any file extension, FoxySpider also has you covered.

The output galleries are configurable too — thumbnail size, background color and so on. There’s no option to automatically save the galleries you create, however!FoxySpider is a Web crawler for image and video enthusiasts originally appeared on Download Squad on Fri, 13 Aug 2010 13:00:00 EST. Games (including EA’s) to be front and center in Chrome Web Store

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Filed under: Games, OS Updates, Google
Right now, the jury’s out on Chrome Web Apps — but there seems to be more than a little confusion about what they are and how they’ll work. Sure, some of them will be little more than packaged versions of web apps you use right now like Gmail and Seesmic with support for some nifty Chrome features like notifications — but others will make use of Native Client, Pepper, and O3D… And that includes full-on games, baby!

We’re not just talking Plants vs. Zombies or Bejewelled here either (no offense intended). In the top right corner of 1Up’s screenshot you can clearly see FIFA 10 — and you’ve got to think that if EA is on board with one title, they’ll be bringing more to the table as well.

1Up’s post also shows Google demonstrating other in-browser games like the Quake demo their own devs released, Freeciv.net, Google Pac Man, and a Flash version of Lego Star Wars. The page for Plants vs. Zombies is also shown with a price of $3.99 — not to bad for one of the most addictive little games I’ve played in a long time. There’s also a ‘try it free’ button so you can count on being able to test drive at least some of the games and apps in the store prior to plunking down your cash.

I don’t know about you, but the more details that surface the more excited I’m getting about the Chrome Web Store opening its doors. Now, when am I going to get my hands on a shiny piece of Chrome OS hardware….?Games (including EA’s) to be front and center in Chrome Web Store originally appeared on Download Squad on Tue, 17 Aug 2010 16:00:00 EST. Those crazy Taiwanese have done it again: ‘Google Does Evil’ (video)

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

From the same news agency that produced that fantastic iPhone ‘Antennagate’ video comes a brief one-minute synopsis of Google’s apparent abandonment of its don’t be evil mantra. If you haven’t been following the news (we haven’t really covered it here on Download Squad), Google is coming to terms with having to be a little more ruthless to maintain its market lead. In turn, this has sparked a lot of commentary about Google being evil.

I don’t think this is as funny as the iPhone video — and it could certainly do with some English subtitles — but it does feature, rather succinctly, all of the pertinent facts. I only really laughed out loud at the dead girl (see image after the break), which pays homage to a British news story from last week. I guess it’s pretty awesome that these guys can pump animations out in just a few days!

Age of Empires Online — the next iteration of the famous franchise is kinda, um, FarmVille…

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Do not adjust your monitor — it’s meant to look cartoony!

Age of Empires Online, the long-awaited update to one of the most famous RTS franchises, is coming, along with a truly massive deviation from its usual format. Yes, it’s still an RTS; yes, there are still buildings and military and a campaign — but that’s where the similarities end!.

Age of Empires Online is actually closer to FarmVille than an Age of Empires title. Your city is saved online, accessible from anywhere (the game will be digitally distributed, so you can log in from anywhere). You will carry out quests, which will take the form of single- and multi-player cooperative missions. Of course there’s in-game chat too, so you can talk to your friends while you play. Basically, it’s a social MMO, but with ‘real’ RTS gameplay tacked on. Watch the video on its website to see some actual gameplay.

I’m not quite sure what to make of it all. The FAQ has tantalizing yet thoroughly useless hints at what to expect. There’s no sign of what it will cost, but I presume it will be free, if it wants to compete with FarmVille. That opens another kettle of fish: as a full RTS, it must be cost inga lot more than other Flash-based MMOs to develop… how will they monetize it?

Age of Empires Online is slated for release sometime in 2011. You can try your chances, like me, and sign up for the Closed Beta, though! (The beta sign-up survey asks if you’ve played FarmVille and Mafia Wars, incidentally…)

Oh, and apparently this is a Windows PC exclusive — I had so hoped for a mobile title to challenge Civilization for Facebook…Age of Empires Online — the next iteration of the famous franchise is kinda, um, FarmVille… originally appeared on Download Squad on Tue, 17 Aug 2010 13:30:00 EST. Website owners: Opera users are the most valuable, in terms of ad clicks

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

An interesting report, titled ‘Are Opera Users the Most Valuable?’ has been making the rounds this week. The commentary has been opinionated and fiery and, truth be told, we’re still no closer to working out why Opera users click the most ads.

If you don’t want to click through, the basic gist is this: Opera users are 50% more likely to click ads than Chrome users. Internet Explorer are the next-most likely to click ads, followed by Firefox. Safari users actually click the least ads!

The difficulty comes from trying to analyse these figures. A nascent analysis, perhaps citing Internet Explorer, would state that the lack of ad-blocking is to blame. Both Chrome and Firefox have excellent ad-blocking extensions, that’s why their users click so few ads. But Opera has ad-blocking! And if it was only about blocking ads, wouldn’t Internet Explorer be at the top?

So, Opera has ad-blocking, yet its users still click the most ads. Curious. (Incidentally, is there a popular ad-blocking add-on for Safari? As in, one that even non-power users would know of?)

Perhaps it’s the users themselves. Are Opera users more inquisitive? This report uses in-line text ads as a sample set, so maybe… Opera users are more literate? Perhaps Safari and Chrome users merely scan text, rather than actually reading it? The problem with this argument is Internet Explorer — it’s right up the top with Opera! Can we really say that the average Opera user is comparable to an IE user? Surely they are at the opposite ends of the spectrum!

What’s the answer, then? I’m guessing that the sample set is from a biased set of websites — perhaps from a forum that’s frequented by a lot of Opera users? Internet Explorer should be at the top, with its lack of ad-blocking and its ‘newbie’ user base. Still, I’m going to suggest to my chief that we write more Opera news…Website owners: Opera users are the most valuable, in terms of ad clicks originally appeared on Download Squad on Wed, 18 Aug 2010 13:30:00 EST. Hands-on with Android 2.2 on the Droid X

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

You know we couldn’t help ourselves. When a leaked build of Android 2.2 for the Motorola Droid X was outed by My Droid World, we had to take it for a spin. You’re not going to find too many UI changes over what you’re used to on the X. (The lock screen’s been changed, for what that’s worth.) But there are a number of under-the-hood improvements (many of which we’ve covered in our Froyo Features series), and Adobe Flash 10.1 is on the ROM, which a lot of you have a hankering for. Let’s take a look, after the break.(Anybody else install this build? On the fence? We’ve got a forum thread full of what we’re finding.)

X-10 Mini, Mini Pro now in color — outside looks better than inside

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Sony Ericsson has announced earlier this month that the X10 Mini, and the X10 Mini Pro will soon be available in new colors. The Mini, (right) will be available with a gold shell, while the Mini Pro (left) will feature a pink sliding case. I’ll tell anyone within earshot that I’m not 100 percent sure I like the trend to giant phones, and these sure do look nice. Too bad they only updated the case colors — both the Mini and Mini Pro still run Android 1.6.For what it’s worth, the new colors should be available next month, and an update to Android 2.1 sometime before hell freezes over in Q4 of this year. SE — we love your phones. They feel great, and have excellent call quality. Please realize that we Android fans need the OS updates more than we need food, and make phones that look this hot run a current version of the software! Shutdown Timer v3 released, GUI completely changed

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Shutdown Timer is a utility which shuts down your computer, logs you off, runs a file or does any number of other things once the CPU goes above or beyond a certain threshold, or the network downstream or upstream passes a threshold, et cetera.
In simple terms, it’s a tool which lets you shut down your computer once your downloads complete for the night. I’ve covered it before, but a new version has been released, the the UI is completely different now.
To be honest – I liked the previous UI better. This new UI has some odd quirks: for example, I cannot set a condition such as “when CPU is below 10% AND memory is below 2.5GB”. It’s either CPU or memory, can’t be both.
On the plus side, you can now set it to open a file or run a program when the trigger conditions are met – that’s new, and very handy.
Another nice thing about this program, in my opinion, is how its creator tries to monetize it. The program’s site is beautifully laid out (as is the program); there are no annoyances, but there are clear and simple requests for donation, including a bar that shows how many donations have been collected so far. It’s a simple, common model, but the execution is graceful. I certainly hope some people donate (I don’t personally use the tool, but if I did, I probably would, just because he asks so nicely and provides a good product).

5 must-have back-to-school apps for your computer and smartphone

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Chances are good that you use more than one gadget to help with schoolwork. If you have a laptop or desktop computer and do-it-all smartphone at your disposal there are some great applications which can be a huge help at school regardless of which device you’ve got your hands on.

From taking notes in class to accessing files at home to staving off forgetfulness, these five highly-useful apps are ready to lend you a hand at all times!

Dropbox
Those of you who need to work on projects with other classmates should definitely check out Dropbox. A free 2GB account gives you plenty of space to store and share documents, images, lecture recordings, or just about anything else. DropBox offers desktop apps for Windows, Mac, and Linux and mobile apps for Android, Blackberry, and iPhone — plus there’s a handy web interface. For anywhere, anytime access to files, Dropbox is an excellent choice.

Evernote
Like Dropbox, Evernote has apps for just about every device you’d want to use it on. Use it to record voice notes during class, scrawl important details just like you would in a paper notebook, clip items from relevant websites you visit… Put simply, it’s one of the most versatile and powerful note-taking apps you’ll find for any computer or phone.

Remember the Milk
When I was attending the University of Kentucky, my “reminder service” consisted of my forgetful roommate and an 8.5×11″ whiteboard on the back of our door — which was frequently covered by a hoody. Having a to-do app like Remember the Milk would have been an extremely handy way to stay on top of assignment deadlines. RTM can sync with just about any calendar software and alert you via email, SMS, Twitter, or just about any other method (apart from magical white owls).

You’ll need a pro account for the best experience on your mobile, but it’s well worth the $25 per year. That should be an easy sell to your parents if you don’t want to pony up yourself.

Skype
The longtime standard for voice and video calling from a computer, Skype also offers a mobile app for iPhone, and Android and Blackberry apps are on the way. Free calls to your family and friends means more money for happy hour at the off-campus… er… book store. Yeah, that’s it…

TeamViewer
At first blush, TeamViewer might seem like an odd choice for this list — but hear me out. If you’ve got two computers and you’re away from one, there’s always a chance you’ll need to access a file on it. It’s happened to me a hundred times. TeamViewer lets you jump in remotely and transfer files or take control over your system no matter where you are. With iPhone and iPad apps and a browser-based client built with Flash (so you should be able to run it on an Android 2.2 phone), TeamViewer is an excellent way to make sure you can always get at your computer.

Got another great app for school which is just as useful on your phone as it is on your desktop or laptop? Share it in the comments!

Katy Perry, Usher Top Billboard’s New Songs Of Summer Chart

Author: Admin | Category: Auto Insurance

Lady Gaga, Drake, Eminem also make top 10 of new list, which ranks biggest summer jams.By James Montgomery

Katy Perry in her “California Gurls” video

Photo: Capitol Records

It would appear, after years spent debating, deliberating, dissecting and disputing, that there is finally a better way to determine just what is the biggest Summer Jam of the year … and of the past 25 years, too.

That’s because Billboard just unveiled its brand-new Songs of the Summer chart, which ranks the Top 10 summer jams “based on actual performance on the Billboard Hot 100, from the June 12, 2010, chart date through the most-recent chart.”
Not surprisingly, Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” holds the top spot on the chart. After all, the song has been #1 on the Hot 100 for six straight weeks. Usher’s “OMG” — which had previously nabbed the top spot on the Hot 100 — is in at #2, followed by B.o.B and Hayley Williams’ “Airplanes,” and the Travie McCoy/ Bruno Mars track “Billionaire.” Ke$ha’s “Your Love Is My Drug” rounds out the Top 5.
Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro” — which won MTV’s Summer Jam Sweepstakes last month — is at #6, Taio Cruz’s “Break Your Heart” is at #7, Drake’s “Find Your Love” is at #8, Eminem’s “Not Afraid” is at #9 and Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me” closes out the Top 10.
The “Songs of the Summer” chart will run until September 9, when Billboard will crown a champion. So it’s still plenty early, which means that you probably can expect to see newer Hot 100 entries — like Eminem’s hard-charging “Love the Way You Lie,” which sits at #2 on the chart after just three weeks — to make a dent on the Summer chart as well. Hot 100 rankings are based on radio play and sales.
Along with the Summer chart, Billboard also unveiled a comprehensive list of the biggest summer songs of the past quarter-century, as determined by impact on the Hot 100 and something called “an inverse point system, with weeks at #1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least.” For music obsessives, it’s a treat. And for trivia buffs, it finally provides an answer to the question “Who had the biggest summer song in 1988?” (Steve Winwood!) So, really, everyone wins.

Lady Gaga Explains Lollapalooza Crowd-Surfing

‘I don’t know what came over me,’ Gaga says of crashing Semi Precious Weapons set.By Jocelyn Vena

Last week in Chicago, Lady Gaga felt the power of Lollapalooza overtake her when she jumped onstage with her pals the Semi Precious Weapons and decided to crowd-surf.
It was a moment her “little monsters” eagerly welcomed. On Wednesday (August 11), she called in to Ryan Seacrest’s radio show and explained that she hadn’t planned it; she just really wanted to crowd-surf.

“I was so excited ’cause I haven’t crowd-surfed in a long time ’cause no one lets me anymore,” Gaga said. “It was great,” she continued. “I love Semi Precious so much and they’re my band … I don’t know what came over me. I just got so excited and I remember playing that stage and what it felt like and they were doing such a great job. … I just jumped.”
The Semi Precious performance isn’t all that’s gotten Gaga all jumpy lately. The recent overturning in California of Prop 8 banning same-sex marriage was also inspiring to her.
“I felt like it was a revolution, a gunshot went off. It was so exciting when it happened. For me, it was a moment that indicates it can happen in every state now,” she said. Gaga was so excited by the ruling that she decided to pen more music.
“I was so happy, and I went right into the studio and I kept writing,” she said. “[My album] kind of is done, but I can’t stop writing music. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I might have to put out two records.”
Gaga didn’t spill too many beans about the
next album but noted that she already had a thesis of sorts for it.
“I never stop writing, so even when my album’s done, I’m always working,” she explained. “When I put this album together, I wanted to write the album in an innovative way. I want the message to be innovative. I already have the sonic ideas and the message ideas. … I basically asked friends of mine to produce the record with me, and we’re called the banditos.”
